Share The Love!

Hi everyone!

You may remember that I did some Sharing The Love on You Tube recently. I’m not really sure if You Tube is my thing, I think I’m more comfortable blogging. For now, I have made my videos private but I’ll probably change my mind again tomorrow.

Anyway just in case you are interested, here is a quick rundown of who I mentioned in my Share The Love videos.

***YOU TUBE CHANNELS***

Claire

http://www.youtube.com/user/FashionTeller17

Claire has a blog and a You Tube channel. Her blog is amazing and her channel is a little bit newer but I chose her as a You Tuber just because when she is talking about style and fashion she is so passionate and in to what she is talking about. I find her energy contagious. On my mission, I think I’ve got sidelined by beauty a bit but I’ve started to think more about style and adorning pretty things as I read more of Clare’s posts and watch her videos. A couple of her videos are quite different too. One is dedicated to her shoe collection. I’ve seen tens of make up collection videos before but a shoe collection one?! It worked though, a great vlog. Then there was another chatty vlog about how she thought her style was evolving. Again I’ve seen chatty videos before but never one, that took this angle. So hopefully there will be some more videos up soon. In the meantime, check out her channel if you haven’t already and of course, check out her blog http://www.thefashiontellersnotes.blogspot.com !

Tanya Burr

http://www.youtube.com/user/pixi2woo

When I did my Share the Love videos, I was really in to my Frenched which I doubt I ever would have been able to pull off if I hadn’t watched Tanya’s wearable red lip tutorial. I know she is quite well-known but all of her tutorials seem to work for me. I have been working her Lady Gaga lippie (I do like Satin Taupe) look recently and it is quite wearable. I’ve learnt loads from her and she is a trained make up artist so hopefully everybody can pick up something from her. Tanya also has another ‘fun’ channel which is a good way to wind down if you like ‘A day in the life’ type videos. Oh and of course, look out for the jewellery Tanya wears in her videos because some of it she sells. Remember a certain dancing ring!

Alex

http://www.youtube.com/user/alex27393

To be fair, I have not watched lots of Alex’s videos yet but I found her channel when I was searching You Tube for some extension videos and I watched one of her videos and then another one. I thought they were good and she covered hair, beauty, make up. She has more then fifty videos up and seems really in to making her channel a success. I have subscribed and think that her channel could be one to watch.

Kathy

http://www.youtube.com/user/xxsgtigressxx

I wasn’t aware of Kathy’s channel before but she does have a big following so maybe you are already subscribed. However, this channel she is new to me and wow, am I pleased that I found it. I became aware of Kathy’s videos after Laura (Lollipop26) tweeted that the only tutorials she ever watched were on this channel. There are a lot of make up looks on this channel which I will soon be exploring but the video that I have been watching over and over with my 209 in hand, is the Perfect Liquid/Gel liner tutorial.

***BLOGS***

Nicoletta

http://nicolettasbeautyspace.blogspot.com/

I remember saying in my video that Nicoletta’s blog was my current fave and I still look forward to her posts now. I think Nicoletta is quite new to blogging -I’ve probably only followed her a couple of months- but you would never know. She does a lot of faces of the day but also throws in fashion, hair, reviews and more general posts. She did a lovely one today about appreciating the small things such as a morning with her son and some toast. Nicoletta seems really friendly and posts almost, if not, every day.

Muhsine

http://bubblegarm.blogspot.com/

You all know that I am a big fan of Muhsine’s blog. It covers everything make up, natural beauty, hair and she is just so stylish that you’ll probably find some style inspiration in there too. Muhsine’s photos are great and her posts are always inspiring. She consistently produces very clear swatches with through comparisons. She talks fairly about many different brands. A great blog to check out if you are in to seeing how some of the less hyped brands fare compared to MAC and Nars. The posts on this blog are not ones that could be written without some knowledge, thought and research. Oooh and the odd purchase or so!! Thankfully Muhsine posts several times a week and in addition to this, there is a whole wealth of information on her blog in the form of earlier posts. Sometimes if I have a question (or a blemish), I just search Muhsine’s blog and Bingo, a remedy is found!

IKWYWTS

http://iknowwhatyouworethissummer.blogspot.com/

A new group blog set up by Gemma from Gem’s Maquillage. You may have heard about it but basically you submit a half decent photo of your outfit of the day and Gemma/Victoria will include it in a cute little post with a few more OOTD’s from others. I’m very nosy and love seeing what people are wearing. It is great to see what we wear in common and what more unique pieces people use to distingish their style. There have been points where I have been obsessed with this blog and trawled the net to try and find something spied here. This blog is also a great way to find new blogs as under photos, IKWYWTS will link to the person’s blog.

Laura

http://emeraldgreen88.blogspot.com/

Laura’s blog is brilliant. She posts regularly, does a lot of looks with a lot of different products. One look that I always remember is a Bollywood one. The looks are always creative and to me, Laura’s technique appears spot on. Laura replies to a lot of her comments and seems an avid reader of many blogs herself, I’m sure she has ‘matchmaked’ a lot of blogs with new followers in Blogland, as she often tags or refers to interesting posts or competitions she has read. Also Laura is so on the ball with future collections, she knows what is coming out and when. A great blog to turn to when compiling wish lists. Laura also does beauty reviews and hauls.

There we go, I know some of my mentions are more well-known then others but I hope you find somebody new to follow here.

Oh and of course, there is Laura, Lollipop26 (http://lollipop26writes.com/) but you are all following her anyway but just so you know I would highly, highly recommend following her if you live on Jupiter and aren’t already. Are there any other amazing channels or blogs that I should be subscribed to?! Let me know and I will check them out.

X

PS I have done a post or two like this before so flick through my wordpress (https://essjay23x.wordpress.com/) archives to see who else I have rated if you are interested.

Congratulations Laura!

Congratulations Laura!

Laura, Emerald Green 88, has 150 followers and to celebrate, she is having a giveaway where one lucky winner will win a bumper stash including some MAC (All That Glitters!!) and many other beauty faves.

As part of the giveaway, you must follow Laura’s fabulous blog. Laura is happy to have more followers as long as they are loyal to her posts and not just there for a giveaway.

I really suggest you take a look at Laura’s blog. Her brilliant blog was one of the first that I followed and I really look forward to her fabulous FOTD’s and very regular, detailed updates. Her approach to blogging seems as professional as her nature is friendly (she dedicated a whole post to me once with swatches when I was umming and ahhing over purple eye make up. So sweet). I can’t imagine it’ll be long before she has another 150 followers so what are you waiting for?! Hop across now and be inspired by one of her gorgeous product finds or what about her Indian wedding look?

I love your blog!

I love your blog!

Well, the Oscars are drawing ever closer. How exciting! Can’t wait to see George in his tux and all the gorgeous looks that the oh so glam crowd will be rocking. Hey girls, you’re the only crowd that are even near hot on their heels!

Anyway that little gold man equals awards and well, I think I already mentioned (shouted from the rooftops) that Laura gave me my very first blog award recently.

In order to accept it, I have to award some blogs myself. I think we are meant to tag 15 other blogs, Laura tagged 8 and I’m going to award as many as I can.

Over the last few months, I have encountered tens maybe hundreds of beauty blogs and I’m not sure that there is one that I would not return to but for me, these are the ones that do stand out and for whatever reason, my little computer arrow ends up clicking on.

1/Bubblegarm

3/Makeupandbeauty

http://pearlsandpoodles.blogspot.com

11/ The MakeUpGoddessGuru

http://themakeupgoddessguru.blogspot.com

12/ Random London Girl

http://randomlondongirl.blogspot.com

I know that this is not the most original list (and I am aware that some of these bloggers have already recieved the award) but this award is a ‘I love your blog’ award and for me, these are the blogs with that little extra magic. I wish I could surprise you with special discoveries of my own but maybe there is a reason (and not necessarily YouTube) why these blogs are so loved by me and many others. There are a couple more blogs that I really, really like and would have added to this list if only they were updated a little bit more. I know it is hard to make time to update. I have certainly being slipping lately so if I do any shoutouts in the next couple of weeks then they are likely to be about a specific post that I like rather then an actual blog.

Anyway if by some mistake, you are not already following any of the blogs listed here then go and say hello now. These are the creme de la creme!

Ooh and also I have to admit that I don’t think I can but if I could I would be awarding Laura straight back. http://emeraldgreen88.blogspot.com Her blog is wonderful, full of swatches and info about the very latest products (esp. MAC). I think you can normally tell how much work somebody puts in to a blog, I think that Laura puts buckets and buckets of work, time and lippie in to her beautiful blog and is rapidly gaining a very loyal following.

It means a lot that Laura gave me this award, did you see the quality of the other blogs she awarded?! Yet, she still had a space for my blog on on her list. Thanks, Hun!

For the bloggers I’ve nominated, apparently these are the “rules” for the award.

Rules:

– Post award on your blog

– Link the person who has given you the award

– Pass the award to 15 other blogs you’ve discovered

– Remember to contact the bloggers you’ve nominated.

Remember this is another step closer to an Oscar, hee hee.

FAO:Shoe designers, beauty bloggers and those who paint purple!

FAO: Shoe designers, beauty bloggers and those who  paint purple!

Hey Girls

I don’t know if anybody caught the Fabulous magazine yesterday. I never realised how inspiring this little supplement is for me until I began blogging but there are some absolute diamonds of fashion and beauty features (and one heel of a competition for any wanna be shoe designers).

The beauty feature this week is called ‘Ultra Violet’ and basically shows three different ways of incorporating purple in to your make up look.

There is a purple sparkly look for the eyes using Barry M Fine Glitter in Silver and a Bourjois Little Round Pot Eyeshadow in Midnight Purple and Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Blackberry.

The second look has a more vivid purple on a nuder face. There is a little MAC pigment in Violet or Rose over the top of the cheekbones and then an Urban decay shadow (Purple Haze or Cult) lining the upper lid with a subtle Bare Minerals Lip Colour, Bellani, on the lips.

The final look is all about the lips. Again the actual face is very natural but I think the model looks very bronzed. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Va Va Violet has been placed over a neutral base and within the borders of some lipliner and then the nails polished with OPI Lincoln Park at Midnight really completes the unique look.

What do you think? Are we liking purple?

I think there are two reasons why I’m more then a little influenced by Fabulous.

Firstly, it is published on a Sunday and Sunday seems to be that crazy day when I get ‘I can do that’ and ‘I will do that’ and ‘Isn’t that a great idea?’ type voices in my head!

Secondly, I very rarely buy magazines now and the cyber beauty community is my biggest influence. You will notice that I have added a stamp in my sidebar. This was after reading Muhsine’s post about the importance of beauty bloggers http://bubblegarm.blogspot.com/2010/02/blogging-is-new-media.html. I found a lot of what was said by her and others in the comments, to be very true and she had this little stamp that she would like you to add to your blog if you agreed with what was said.

Muhsine’s post is just one of a few posts about beauty blogging which I have been interested to read over the last week or so. These posts really hit home.

At the beginning of the year, this blog and I were honeymooning and I was loving it. Actually I got slightly obsessed with getting all the latest products, reading all the new posts, commenting and writing my own. This little blog was taking up so much of my energy and then suddenly about a week ago, I woke up disillusioned with the whole thing and missing some of the things I used to do. So now I’m going to make an effort to create a bit more balance in my life. I’m going to continue the blog. Of course I am. Deep down, it is my baby and even when I thought I’d be giving it up, I was still planning posts in my head. I must post this and that etc. As frustrating as I was finding my blog, I couldn’t let go. It is almost as if we have been going through the terrible twos or something so I’m just taking a little time to step back and breathe life in again. There may be less posts then again, maybe not! I hope you don’t mind. The British Beauty Blogger has written a little about our love-hate relationships with blogging on her blog http://www.britishbeautyblogger.com/2010/02/blogs-heart-of-matter.html and there was a little post by Zoella http://schoee.blogspot.com/2010/02/my-most-asked-question.html  which also reminded me that at the end of the day, my blog is mine and it can be whatever I want it to be or feel like it being. Ha, watch out!!! ;-)

Ooh and before I go, I had better mention what some of you have been waiting for. Going back to Fabulous, there is an awesome competition inside. Basically you have to design a pair of heels. If your heels win, they could be sold in Faith stores across the UK and online with 20% of sales going to the Wellbeing of Women chairty. You need to send a coloured drawing of your design with a short description to the magazine. I’m sure you can find full details, terms and conditions on Fabulousmag.co.uk but hurry, the closing date is at the end of March.

Wow, I only wish I could draw but imagine if one of you won!!!

X

Survival kits and pretty prizes.

with 5 comments

Survival kits and pretty prizes.

Hi girls

I don’t know if very many of you know but Sophie aka BeautyMarked19 ( http://www.beautymarked19.blogspot.com ) is currently doing a blog series where once a week or so, she is going to feature an extract from fab but less known blogs and then link you to that blog so if you’re interested then you can learn more, I think this is a great idea and will be following the series with interest. I love finding new people to follow and what amazes me is how different every new blogger, I find, is to all the others. We are all so unique.

So far BeautyMarked 19 had featured one blog and wow, she started with the series with a bang. The first blog featured was PearlsandPoodles from the lovely Milly ( http://www.pearlsandpoodles.blogspot.com ). I can not believe Milly has only been blogging three weeks. Already she has covered so much, make up; outfits of the day; jewellery collections; her Sunday plans. Her posts are always so easy to read and pretty. She seems so happy and such a breath of fresh air. To be honest, I’m jealous. The girl was born to blog!

One of my favourite posts is her desert island one and at the end, she tagged anybody who wanted a go. Well, here we go . . . across the sea towards the sun.

Hmm, this looks like a nice place to get stranded!

Ok. . , I borrowed the image from Milly but let’s squeeze our eyes tight and concentrate on dreaming . . . isn’t this island beautiful and guess what?! We’re castaway here for the foreseeable future. What a shame ;-) but always prepared (ahem), here are the five items in my survival kit.

1/ Supremya At Night

I want this. I wanted it as soon as I saw it named the best night cream in InStyle Best Beauty Buys this year. It looks gorgeous in its golden tube and make-up guru Ruby Hammer is quoted as saying people thought she had botox after she’d used it and apparently a little goes a long way which is always helpful if you’re stranded.

There is only one problem and that is the price. £435 but then my skin hates the sun and this island looks pretty sunny. Paradise it maybe but I’m going to have to look after my skin and the only thing better then been stranded on this desert island is been stranded on the desert island and then looking ten years younger when I hit the mainland again.

Also think of all the Barry M and MAC that I won’t be able to buy while I’m stranded. Ha! In the circumstances, this cream could actually be a good value investment.

Yes Mr Bank Manager, honestly!

2/ Hollywood Smile

Well, it is sunny. It is hot and in this dream, I’m castaway with lots of hot, tanned men so I’m going to be smiling and for this I need white teeth. ;-)

I have used tubes of Hollywood Smile before when I have had a special occasion coming up and I would say my teeth do always seem to go lighter by two or so shades within about four weeks of use. The only downside is that once the tube runs out and I start going back to normal toothpaste, my teeth suddenly do not look as white anymore.

3/ Soap and Glory Easy Glistening Dry Oil Body Gloss

Milly says sun-tan lotion is provided. This is all very good but my skin can be a menace. Without sun tan lotion, I’m fried and look like a tomato in seconds. With sun tan lotion, I stay my normal ghost white. I never just tan or get that sun kissed glow so I’m going to take a bottle of this along to fake some kind of radiance. I love this product for it’s ability to make my skin look shimmery, healthy and young but also the scent. As you know I am obsessed with pretty scents and perfumes. The smell of this product is gorgeous. Sometimes I do not need to wear perfume with it and I can just imagine how beautiful and even more vibrant this lovely sweet scent will be when it is encounters the heat of this tropical island. As if it isn’t gorgeous enough already?!

4/ Vaseline

Here I snap with Milly but this year, this product has been my saviour. Many of you will know how it helped during My Great Dry Lip Crisis of January 2010. I love this product and now it is my lips absolute best friend, I know that I can rely on it to be just as much of an angel when I’m stranded in paradise and I bet I’ll be glad of it when I burn my hands on the camp fire or am bitten by a shark.

Plus I heard about another use today. I was reading some comments to Mushines latest post (http://bubblegarm.blogspot.com/2010/02/scent-sational.html). Ella Pretty said that if you place vaseline on your pulse points before you spritz perfume there, the scent will linger longer. I’m guessing it could work the same for my Soap and Glory Dry Oil.

5/ An umbrella

It looks like paradise but don’t they always say that nothing is as good as it seems? Well as these five items are my only things on this island, I’m going to make sure that when I use them, they are not washed away by a sudden downpour straight after application.

Plus you know I have been very brave not taking a hairdryer or strighteners with me . . ! And hey if my luck does change and it is just sun, sun, sun all the way then I have something for shade and protection.

So there we go, that is my survival kit! I have gone for subtle beauty products. Ones that give the impression of general health and radiance and will look afer me somewhere, so far away from home. After all, what use will mascara be if I’m blinking in to the sun sixteen hours a day and been pompelled with rain for the other eight hours?!

So as you know mine now why not share your survival kit below in the comments (remember that could help you in qualifying for my competition, see the competition post) or do a post on your blog? I would love a peek and it is a fun tag to do.

Back to Milly, she has just reached 200 followers in like 15 posts. Wow! She is having a giveaway to celebrate and included in the prize stash is the gorgeous Aqua dazzledust and a very hot pink one, a gorgeous pearl necklace, love hearts and more! As you can see, a really unique stash that compliments her blog beautifully. http://pearlsandpoodles.blogspot.com/2010/02/my-pearlie-girlie-giveaway.html

Ooh and while we are talking competitions and such like, don’t forget you still have time to enter mine. See the competition post ( https://essjay23x.wordpress.com/2010/01/20/competition-time ) .

Also check out the Beautylicious blog, Jo is having a giveaway now she has reached 250 followers and the winner gets a MAC lipstick and lipsglass of their choice. ( http://www.beautyliciouslove.com/2010/02/250-followers-giveaway.html  )Again a fab (and very generous) prize!

Until next time, enjoy the sun on your (dream!) island!

Weekend Plans

Weekend Plans

And here is a couple more suggestions for this weekend.

1/ Pick up the InStyle March 2010 issue

There is a Best Beauty Buys magazine with it.

I haven’t had time to read it all yet but already have a couple of items to add to my wishlist as well as a few little tips to make more of myself. For example, they quote make-up artist Alex Box who says ‘When wearing a strong lip colour, powder the outside edge of your lips to lock in the colour and prevent bleeding’. I can’t wait to get lost in this one this weekend (when I’m not partying, of course!) There is also an offer for 20% off at ASOS until the end of February.

2/ Keep an eye on my blogroll in the sidebar this weekend. I have already added a link to Jessica Rose and Milly (Pearls and Poodles) and I hope to add some more over the weekend. I’m really in to blog surfing at the moment. I’m also hoping to do a post this week where you can all introduce yourselves and your blog in the comments ‘cos as I’ve said before it is hard to get your blog known out there and I’m sure that some of you are hiding some real gems.

3/ I have enjoyed so many posts this week and I think, I am going to start highlighting them on my blog. This one by Gemma is all about Style Inspiration ( http://gemsmaquillage.squarespace.com/blog/2010/2/1/my-style-inspiration.html ). She actually has a file crammed with piccies of style and icons who inspire her and in this post, she shares it with us. I have to create one of these files. I hope that I have time to this weekend. It will be so useful for my fashion challenge. If any of you have a style file or create one after sneaking a peek at Gemma’s then please leave us a link to it here. I’d love to see what you like and what inspires you all!

4/ Take a look at my Competition post and the lovely treats on offer for the winner and then starting doing what you need to, to enter. I can’t believe that the closing date is almost only a week away.

5/ And finally, don’t forget to party with Creative Moments http://www.your-creativemoments.co.uk/blog

Happy weekends, yay!

It gives me a great buzz when I discover someone whose work I know that I’m going to follow. Feel free also to link your blog/channel in the comments here, I know how hard it is to let people know that you are there.

Happy beauty surfing and don’t forget to make time to look at my Competition post if you haven’t already done so!
