Ooh, have you seen Cheryl Cole’s new hair?

Btw, I love the colour of her dress too.

As unoriginal as it may make me, Cheryl is one of my style inspirations.

This image was found through a Google image search. It is from

I have tried a few different tutorials based on Cheryl’s look and in celebration of her new hair (and health), I thought that I would share a couple of them with you.

This first one is based on a couple of tutorials on the Barry M website It was one that I wore out (that is why the photo is blurry. Oops, it seems I was not the only one drinking!) so I did tweak it a little to suit me.

This look uses the Barry M dazzledusts.

I used mushroom (51, my favourite dazzledust) on the lid and chocolate to contour (53). You can see I also used a lot of black shadow and liner. I’m sure for once I actually managed to stick a pair of false lashes on (whoo!) but interestingly they are Nadine’s and not Cheryl’s from the orginal GA lash collection. I think you can see that I tried to wing the shadow and liner out a bit as Cheryl has that cat look going on. I remember it all got a bit messy and as usual when using dazzledusts, I did the eye look before I did the rest of my face (phew). Hmm, dazzledusts are messy but there is something (maybe the dazzle) very starry and glitzy about them!

I have also created a Cheryl look based on a Pixi2Woo tutorial I was trying to see what colours worked together.
This time I used MAC Sable, Jest and Carbon with lots of liner and mascara to make up the eyes pictured above. Tanya used the MAC lipstick, Girl About Town. However I improvised and used another lipstick, Barry M 144. I love this lipstick but I never really wear it. Well, not outside the house. It is such a beautiful, vibrant colour. It is quite classy too.

Sometimes it can be hard to find a strong pink that does not look too tacky and indeed, lasts. This pink is blue toned and original. It reminds me of a very, very full on Creme de la femme even though they do not look that alike when swatched.

However, there seems to be a some resemblance between them on the lips. 144 is very, very bright but as I’ve said before, I like it a lot and would like to wear it out and about. However, I still have one problem. Look at my inner lip here.

I painted it but lipstick just doesn’t seem to stay in this area and I always end up with these horrible patches. Does anybody else have this problem, what can I do so that I can wear these beautiful colours?

So what do you think of Cheryl’s new hair and her look in general? Who are your style inspirations?

Barry M 53

Barry M 53

Back in February Barry M 53 was never a sensible purchase, it just looked so enticing sat on the shelf that it had to come to the till with me.

I know that the orange coral is fated for sunny girls that bear a nice golden glow but I couldn’t help myself. This lipstick is so vibrant, alive and oh so eye catching among the usual pinks and reds. Striking maybe but not really a match for me yet I went and brought it, didn’t I?!

Now it is June and in theory, this lipstick still should not suit me. I am so pale!

Ok, I have been tanning a little with St Moriz (Make Believe next, yay) but it really is only a little and sometimes even with moisturiser so there is little evidence on my pasty skin of my penchant for tanning. A hint of a glow at the very most.

Yet, I think that I can wear 53. There is no mistaking the fact that it is a bright and vibrant orange yet there is a slight shimmer to it which is almost peach and in certain lights, this seems to tone the lippie down a little which is good news for me as this seems to make the electric colour almost wearable.

I have to be careful in application. A full on lipstick application with a harsh outline is never going to work but with soft application and a little gentle rubbing here and there to smooth out the more pigmented areas. I also used a little Erase paste around the lip line area to blur the lip line and merge the two seamlessly (not an easy technique to master, it looked a bit smudgy first like I’d been eating some raspberries_ and ta dah, I have a hint of sunshine about my lips but still look beach ready, pale skin and all.

Benefit Erase Paste

Benefit You Rebel tinted moisturiser mixed with Bourjois 10 hour sleep effect in Apricot

Maybelline Dream Mousse blush in Peach Satin

Max Factor Lash Extension Effect Mascara

Barry M No53

I would have gone with All That Glitters on the eyes but like I said this lippie has a little shimmer and I want to keep the look simple so I opted for my old favourite, Modellette (very apt because it reminds me of wet sand). I don’t mind shimmer but if I’m going to be outside then I find it can add to that sticky, sweaty look too quickly. Nice!!

I think it is also important if this lipstick is not your perfect match to keep everything else about your look simple. I used just one eyeshadow and a natural mascara. I wore simple, block colours. My outfit had no frills or anything complicated about it. Nothing was too obvious or confusing because if it had been then in a look with Barry M 53, everything could have looked too chaotic and then people would hone in on my look and that lip colour that should not really work for me.

At the end of the day, I like this colour. Surely all that matters is that I am comfortable and happy wearing it. I’m not going to be wearing it to any important formal events but this lippie just gives me that little bit more of a sunny feeling on a day destined for lazing in the garden.

Oh but next time when I dab I may add some vaseline in to the equation as my lips are feeling a little dry. Barry M occasionally seem to produce dry lipsticks. I don’t think that this is too bad. Nor was Barry M 100 and that was drier then this one but then I’m out in the sun with 53 so yeah, vaseline or something might be a good idea!

What lippie do you like to greet the sun with?

Dipping in to dazzle!

Dipping in to dazzle!

Hi Pretties

So I have been meaning to do this post for ages but for some reason have never got around to it but it has to be done.

I have to pay tribute to some beauties from Barry M.

The Dazzledusts!

You may remember a rave in one of my first posts. It was a top five one. Here is what I said about the ultimate dazzledust, Mushroom 51.

‘Yes, you may say it is neutral and yes, you may say you’re playing it safe because you can never go that wrong with neutral and you would be right but this colour is truly gorgeous on the eyes and what is more, it looks great in the pot too. It is subtly alluring with its little sparkly flakes. It twinkles and almost winks at me in the pot, whispering ‘put me on, put me on’. OTT but true all the same.

I like the way that I can not pinpoint the exact colour of 51. Purple, grey, brown. Everytime I look at it, it looks a little bit different. The best I can say is it seems good for this time of year, earthy. It reminds me of stewing skies and the changing colours of leaves.

And like all dazzledusts, its intensity can be played up and down. A great day look then add a little more and maybe a flash of something sultry and it becomes the perfect smoky eye or it would be if my application, was a little more skilled but that is why I am here.

Two warnings though! Firstly, the fallout can be messy so I like to deal with my eyes before I start the rest of my face. Secondly, these dazzledusts are relatively cheap (I think mine was around £4.50) and addictive. When I discovered them, I must have brought twelve in as many days.’

That was then, this is my collection now.

Back left to right PinkGold 3, Bright Blue 5*, Khaki 14, Baby Blue 20, Cherry 34, Tan 39?, Bronze 44, Mushroom 51, Chocolate 53, Lilac 59, Winter Berry 88, Silvery Black 91, Purple 926 Limited edition

It is true. I have brought a few dazzledusts (There are a couple of fine glitter dusts in there too*). I love them. I’m not sure why as application is not always so easy but they make such an impact. I believe you can apply them dry or wet. I have always applied them dry but wonder if it would be easier to use a wet brush so the dust has something to stick to. However once I have cleared any fallout, I do believe that these dusts create a much stronger eye look compared to some of the more conventional high street shadows.

I tend to prime my eye with something eg.Erase Paste concealer, a Benefit cream eye shadow or occasionally a MAC paint tube and the look tends to last all night.

I have also worn dazzledusts in the day. Sometimes if I’m been lazy and only want to wear one colour on my eyes then using a dazzledust (such as Mushroom or Chocolate) instead of a powder shadow can just give a mono lid slightly more impact. I find dazzledusts more messy and timeconsuming when I’m doing a look with more then one. It can be difficult to blend symetrical balanced and matching eyes but I still use dazzledusts because the final look always makes such a statement!

And because dazzledusts do talk for themselves, I’m going to give you a warning. As much as I adore my Max Factor Lash Extension Effect Mascara which grooms and defines so well, dazzledusts are heavy and I find that when I’m wearing a dazzledust look then I do, indeed, prefer more of a volumising mascara such as the L’Oreal Double Tubes even if it does clump.

You know that I adore Mushroom. Here are some of my other faves.

Chocolate 53

A very deep brown which reminds me of Sable and Embark from MAC or the dark brown contour from Big Beautiful Eyes (Benefit). I love to smoke it up when I am going out and to do so, I use Mushroom to colour the lid and then some Chocolate to contour. This is supposed to be remniscent of a Cheryl Cole smoky eye (See MakeUpAdikt’s tutorial here Chocolate can also be used alone and it will simply make the eyes smoulder.

Bronze 44

Now that summer is here, I find myself watching a lot of the bronze eye tutorials on You Tube but I have to be careful being so pale as it can look too wrong or trampish on me so I’ve latched on to a new habit of using the bronze dazzledust to contour. I use it in the way that Lollipop26 uses MAC Museum bronze pigment in her bronzed eye look .

Using a subtle neutral powder shadow for the lid keeps the look toned down and pretty rather then orange and garish. Although when I was looking at my dazzledusts today, I noticed just how orange this bronze is and I’m thinking I might like to try using the Tan 39 in the crease instead. I’m not sure I’ve used this one before but it looks so pretty and shimmery.

Baby Blue 20

This colour is absolutely divine in the pot and makes me think of the sea and sunshine.

If you do have good technique or time for careful application, this looks gorgeous when paired with a Bronze contour. This looks phenomenal on my little sister. She is blond, blue eyed and has a warmer complexion then me but I still think most people could work these two colours together to some degree. Just build the colours up very slowly. Use a light hand to find the right balance or maybe you find it’ll work better to use the bronze as the main colour and the Baby Blue to line the lower lashes or something. Anyhow for me, these two colours just seem to team perfectly for summer.

Here is a quick glimpse of what they looked like when I tried the combo out.

So have you got any dazzledusts? What are your favourites, am I missing any gems? If you’re a stranger to Dazzledusts, will they now be added to your wishlist?

Hey Girlies!

A lovely day today, lipstick swatching this morning and down to the beach this afternoon.

While messing around with my lipsticks, I discovered two things.

Firstly that Collection 2000’s Crystal Pink is beautiful. A very light baby pink with some shimmer. I wore it today over Gosh Darling and with All That Glitters.

Secondly, I think I may have found a close dupe for Viva Glam Cyndi. The beauty in question is a lipstick from Rimmel, Gold Digger.

Now I’m not sure if you can still purchase Gold Digger- I think I brought mine pre-mission and I can not find it on the Rimmel website- but to me, it looks the same in tone and intensity to Cyndi. In fact, I honestly can not remember for sure which swatch is which. I think the top one was Gold Digger and the bottom one was Cyndi. Here they are with and without flash.

Neither of them are a classic, classic showstopping red. Even with the bling in Gold Digger, both of these lipsticks seem a bit more understated. The only difference is evident when it goes on the lips, there is a some shimmer *Bling* in Gold Digger but with things being all summery at the moment then it might be worth checking out. I’m not sure about the staying power of Rimmel lipsticks, I don’t remember wearing many recently but I would hope that they are similar to Maybelline and I get on perfectly well with Ambre Rose. Despite been an old lippie too, I was surprised to find how easily Gold Digger applied and how soft it felt on my lips.

I also popped in to a couple of shops while I was at the beach. There was a large Superdrug and it seems the Famous range from Sue Moxley is having a bit of a revamp. There was a lot of clearence items including my beautiful brows kit which I think they were selling off for £4. This kit is very useful. I do use mine a lot if I’m taking the time to groom my brows. With the three different powders that it includes, it could be a good investment for somebody who is always changing their look (make up/hair colour).

I also spotted a palette of four eye colours in the range that I have eyed up before, Cafe Culture. It always catches my eye. Luckily (or maybe not) before I could pick it up, I was distracted by some large square single eyeshadows marked as new for £4 (I think?!), wow! There were some beautiful purple, blue, black and smoky colours. I thought they looked quite unique too. I mixed a couple of the purpley ones on my hand. The swatch lasted all the way home from the beach so that I could take a picture for you.

So gorgeous and in reality, seems quite pigmented. If you squint, you may also spot a swatch of Barry M lippie 129, the lavenderish one, lower in the picture. Another beautiful product, I really regret not buying something shiny and new today.Local Superdrug, expect a visit very soon!

I also saw some new Rimmel lipsticks from the Colour ShowOff collection. They are being marketed for the day, night and the red carpet. I loved all of these too especially Pink Gossip but must remember to keep an eye on the offers. They seemed to be on offer in Superdrug today (£1.something off) but not Boots.

Of course, every perfect day has to be finished off with a little spritz of something. Today I sprayed Clinique Happy Heart and Ghost Captivating. I think it is the Happy Heart whose lovely, gentle scent mixed so prettily with the the sand and my sunny mood. The scent is still lingering now and making me feel all pretty.

Has anybody checked out Famous? I like the idea of this brand and I’m not sure really why I do not have more from this brand, this may slowly change.

My kind of treasure hunt!

with 2 comments

My kind of treasure hunt!

Hey Pretties!

Let me share with you a little treasure that I hunted down yday.

Firstly, hiding in MAC (of all places!), I uncovered . . .

Sable & Jest

& oh fancy that, another little encounter with Saint Germain. Well, bumping in to each other again. . , that must be a sign so er, yes, sold!

And I guess in such a gorgeous haul, it was inevitable that the In Synch lipliner would invite itself to the party.

I also managed to bag a new Barry M Lip Lacquer Crayon in No 1 Red. I’ve yet to use it properly but a quick test suggests great pigmentation. A very strong and I suspect, long lasting colour but it is also very, very red and totally changes my look . . , hmmm!

Then finally two random(ish) finds, books. About Face by Scott Barnes and Audrey Style by Pamela Clarke Keogh. I haven’t looked at these diamonds properly yet- honestly I’m so pleased with all the treasure I gained today that I have been running from one gorgeous treat to the next and back again, occaionally shrieking and oohing- but flicking through Scott Barnes, it looks amazing and, uncanningly, seems to literfie all that my mission is about. Sometimes when I think about my mission, to make more of myself and to attain something as seemingly unattainable as beauty, it all seems a bit shallow, silly almost childish but deep down, there is so much more to my mission then meets the eye and this book hits the nail on the head.

I’m loving the quotes such as ‘You have the power to create your own MASTERPIECE’ and ‘Feeling beautiful leads to self-respect. Self-respect leads to greater confidence. And confidence commands attention’. There is some paragraph that suggests when you put your lippie or mascara on then you come from the background forward in to the spotlight or something along those lines . . !

Even if you find all these pearls of inspiration a little OTT or trite, there are honestly no words to describe how beautiful the make up and photos are. I know that I’m going to spend hours lost in this book.

As for the Audrey book, it seems part biography and part (indepth) analysis of her beauty, outside and within. It appeals to me because I’m curious about the lady under the gorgeous hair and make up and it seems a bit different to the usual biographies. I’m looking forward to reading this. I can only dream that maybe somehow I will soak up some of Audrey’s beauty just through the reading of this book.

Hope you Girlies are well. Any tips or thoughts on the little treasures I found today. Have any of you uncovered (or splashed out) on any treats lately? If so, I would love to hear all about them. The next good thing to having a stash of my own is reading about some of yours.

Anyway I’m off to find a treasure chest (or at least a decent hiding place) to stow all my new treasures. Maybe I should make a sign, ‘Sisters, hands off!!!’

Happy Valentines Day!!!

with one comment

Happy Valentines Day!!!

I thought that to stay in the spirit of this beautiful day, I would share with you a few things that I have fallen in love with since my mission, to make more of myself, began.

* My head is spinning with love for skincare routines.

As most of you know, I have been Cliniquing twice a day and you know what, I am loving the fact that I have a skincare routine in place. The morning and night applications kind of mark the start and end of my day. What better way to start and end my day on my skin, something that is only mine. My skin, something that only I can (and do) wear. My skin may not always be one hundred percent perfect but I would say that it is a lot closer then it was six months ago and now as I’m looking at it so much more closely at least twice a day and I’m appreciating it and what it goes through each day so much more. I think, ‘Ooh, I was out in that snow for a couple of hours today and my nose itched.’ Then I have a look to see if there is any signs of the earlier distress and if necessary, take the steps to remedy it. Yep, it is official that I’m just a little too obsessed with my skin at the moment.

* I’m blindly in love with soaps from Lush.

I have never been a big fan of solid soap. It has never really homed a strong enough scent for fragrance-mad me and then it has always been quite hard work, to lather and then my skin rarely feels softer or any benefit. That was . . . until Lush! I will probably elaborate on this in my ‘Lush and I’ series but I have only used a small number of soaps from Lush but two of them, I absolutely adore.

 Honey I Washed The Kids

Sultana of Soap

I’m sure you’ve heard it all before but these are divine. They make bathtime fun and then to top it off, apparently they are good for me. After trying these, I know that it doesn’t matter what I hear about all the other Lush soaps (and products), I still will not be satisfied until I have tried each and every one for myself even the dissed ones.

* I’m hopelessly in love with Barry M.

Okay, I admit I have been flirting with MAC a bit lately and there is no denying that MAC is one hottie of a brand but I also know that one day, the novelty of this mission is going to start wearing off and my money is going to start running out but guess what? This doesn’t scare me that much because there is always Barry M and all of their beautiful colours and gorgeous products at damn right yummy prices. Barry M means I never need to go make up hungry and for that, it remains a true love.

Here is a sneak peek at the Fabulous/Barry M free gift that I got last week.

Red Nail Paint (Very excited, there is so much hype about the Barry M nail paints and this colour is perfect for Valentines).

Fabulously Nude Super Shiny Gloss (how will this look with Hue?)

A black eye liner

A shimmery grey eyeshadow (my first Barry M eyeshadow)

And finally a very hot pink make up bag to keep it all in. All of this Barry M for free, there is not much I can say to that. In fact, I’m lost for words!

* I’m loving all the way to the moon and back, the Max Factor Lash Extension Effect Extreme Lengthening mascara.

This is a very new love. I only purchased it last weekend but it is gorgeous. As most of you know, one of my biggest sins is product overload and product overload can equal clumps but not with this mascara. I can heap the layers on and there is not a gloop in site. I have quite long lashes but what I love about this mascara is how seperating and defining it is. It is like a polish for my lashes, it simply creates a beautiful frame for my eyes.

It lets the rest of my make up speak for itself. It is very easy to apply and although it took a couple of goes to get used to the extra long wand, it is easy to get in and catch the small inner lashes. It is unusual for me to apply much mascara to my lower lash line as I think this can look too much and, with gloopy mascaras, quite messy but I think this one does just enough to only compliment the lower lashes. I’m not sure that this mascara will be loved by everyone, I don’t think you can build it up to shout out to the world but for me, it does more then enough and is my one of my newest loves.

* And finally, I’m head over heels in love with you, my readers, followers and inspiration.

If it wasn’t for you, I expect that my mission would have come to a sudden halt weeks ago. Your encouragment and support has been amazing and I can only thank you all, for the big gorgeous part you have played in my life, so far, this year.  I know this sounds OTT but this mission and blog is changing not only my look but also my life and at the end of the day, it all comes back to you. My readers, followers and all of you who also inspire me too. There are so many of you Darlings out there in Blogland, You Tube and at who have helped me so much. The cyber beauty community is amazing and very much alive. I don’t know how I can thank you all for your support. I know that my little competition gives back only the smallest fraction of what all this has given me but I guess it is a start so if you want a chance to reap a reward for your good deeds in supporting my mission then check out my competition post very soon. The competition closes tonight.

Anyway as you can see I’m brimming over with love this year and I don’t want to really end this Valentines post but I must (before I bore you with Snob again), I hope you all have had a fantastic Valentine’s weekend. I know that Jemma (Bamboozle Beauty) and Laura (Emeraldgreen88) have both done the ‘Lipstick Valentine’ so check out their blogs (links in my sidebar) to find the hot lipsticks they are rocking. They have some beauties!

Once again, I would just like to thank you for your support! It really does mean the world.

A bit of this, a bit of that . . .

A bit of this, a bit of that . . .

Hey, happy first of the month to you all. Today’s post is going to be a little bit of a ramble looking at how the first month of my mission went and what I’ve got to do this month.

Well, we can tick off Clinique and Ardell. I more or less kept to these resolutions with the exception of the Clinique moisturiser which for about a week, I sometimes replaced with a moisturiser from Nelsons which I was reviewing for Beauty Judge

Now comes the big crosses. I really did not drink any more water then usual. I kept thinking about it but kept getting distracted before I got to the tap. I’m really cross with myself because when I look at all the beauty problems I have mentioned here and on forums. All of them could be caused by not drinking enough. I’m spending all this money on skincare regimes etc and I can’t even get a glass of water. As you can tell, I’m in the middle of giving myself a good talking to and this resolution will be carried over this month.

My final resolution was to save and use what I’ve got. Hmmm, I have still got a lot of new beauty type things this month  but can I just say a lot of them were brought in place of Christmas and birthday presents and the rest were investments. Ha, do you believe me? Also I did keep the second part of the resolution, I have been using more of what I’ve got both new and old.

So we’ve looked back (oops). I guess now that it is time to look forward. The resolutions for February are to carry on with water (well, start), Ardell (or the nominated replacement, lash product. Watch this space:-)) and Clinique and I’m going to add in a new one which is to keep my surroundings ie. storage and living area as beautiful as possible too. This might seem boring but as I discover new things and dig out old ones. Well, I’m in danger of getting trapped under it all! It also means  that I won’t be buying things to replace things that I thought had gone but actually, are found two days after the replacement has been purchased. Ooh and two mini resolutions. One is one which I will keep this week, is to share some of the pretty things that I got for my birthday with you! Here is a sneak peek of one, a gorgeous ring that my sister gave me.

Liking that! Anyway back to resolutions. New mini resolution two is to get enough of the Barry M tokens from Fabulous magazine and to claim my gorgeous goodies. I actually have only one token to go but I’m usually good at collecting tokens but then forget to claim until it is too late and there is nothing left. By this time next week, I hope the goodies are mine!!!

So what was your start to the New Year like? Any tips or discoveries that might keep my mission on track?
